I’ve heard that a certain amount of Radiation is emitted from PC monitors. Is this true and if so is it something I should worry about?

It is true that CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) screens give out a certain amount of radiation in the form of electro-magnetic emissions. Older monitors did produce higher amounts of emissions but these days CRT monitors are produced with low levels of emissions that you don’t need to worry about, but if you do feel uneasy about this, why not purchase an LCD Monitor which will not produce any radiation at all

There is Government Legislation that requires all monitors to be tested by the manufacturer for radiation emissions in order to reduce the harmful effects they can have on us as users. You can also try buying a protective or radiation filter screen to help protect you further

Other things you can do are ;

  • Stay a good distance away from your screen during use. At least 2 – 3 feet if possible
  • Turn off the Monitor during times when you are not using it
  • Have the back of the monitor against a wall or screen as the back and sides give off more radiation than the front of the monitor screen
